At the end of 2023, I tested the SpeedComfort radiator fans and was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the small fans. Now, after 12 months, I can tell you exactly how much money I have saved. In the end, that’s what matters.
12 months with radiator fans
I was quite enthusiastic in my test of the radiator fans from SpeedComfort. After a few weeks of use, I noticed how much better the heat from the radiators was distributed in the room and how the humidity in the old building had noticeably decreased. I was even able to turn down the flow temperature of my gas boiler. But how much have I really saved?
I have made the following records of my gas consumption:
- December 1, 2022 to December 1, 2023: 818 m³ gas consumed (approx. 8,200 kWh)
- December 1, 2023 to December 1, 2024: 702 m³ gas consumed (approx. 7,000 kWh)
So I used the equivalent of 1,200 kWh less gas with a lower flow temperature and radiator fans. However, I was only able to lower the flow temperature because of the radiator fans. At the same time, the room temperature was 20 degrees, which was actually 1 degree warmer than in the previous period, and the humidity in the old building in winter was 45 to 50 percent, which was better than the 50 to 65 percent in the previous period.

At my current rate, these 1,200 kWh would cost me 9 cents per kWh. In the end, this corresponds to a saving of 108 euros. In fact, I saved more, because I was only able to take out this low-cost tariff in April 2024. I still have to pay 13 cents per kWh for the winter of 2023 until April 2024. So if I roughly calculate 50 percent of the savings at 13 cents and the other 50 percent at 9 cents, the savings are actually 132 euros.
Is it worth buying?
In the end, it all comes down to how much you pay for gas anyway. I already pay relatively little at 9 cents per kWh and don’t use much for a 60-square-meter apartment in an old building. If you use more, then you can save more. However, in very efficient new buildings, fan heaters don’t make sense.
In the office and bedroom, I use the Mono Set with radiators measuring 100 and 120 cm respectively.

The investment costs are around 300 euros. After about 3 years, I would have recouped the costs and could safely use the fans for a few more years after that.
